Bottom of the Barrell... We Were Starting From Scratch
Rick and I were talking this morning on our walk about where we started on this journey. Looking back, two years ago all hell was breaking loose. Just the beginning of the twilight zone. Had we known what we were about to enter into would we have done it? Maybe, maybe not. We probably would't have thought ourselves strong enough or financially stable enough or had enough time. God revealed each moment on it's own so we wouldn't see the whole picture at once. To this day we know we did the right thing. She is worth it! Our consistent love for her is starting to pay off. She said yesterday, love in her home growing up was conditional. It was given if she was winning and taken away if she wasn't. I'm not saying we aren't ever upset or disappointed because that is unrealistic but we always love. I said to Rick on our walk, we literally started at the bottom of the barrel and had no idea. When she came to us, she was lacking love for herself and her idea of a loving family was very skewed. We were starting from scratch. We are so very thankful she is learning what a loving family is truly all about. We fall down, we help each other get back up. We encourage and love always.
Along this journey, I've reached out to friends and neighbors asking if they know so and so or if they can help us find a Christian counselor. God has always provided and with it being November and I'm cognizant of being thankful, I'm so so very thankful for the therapist she is seeing today. She is amazing and she is helping our girl with loving herself. Before she can love anyone and I know she loves us but truly, before she can love anyone she must love herself. She is finding love for herself and for that I'm thankful. One of the most basic of things and she is finally getting there. We all make mistakes, we all take a step forward and two back but knowing that God loves us and we are worthy of His love and we are ok even with our faults is what she is learning. So very very thankful.
I mentioned in my last post that she is very talented with art. She hasn't had any training, she's just learned on her own and she is good. We are so proud of her for stepping up to the challenge a friend gave her a few weeks ago. He asked for a painting. Just one of the angels along the way who are adding to her story. She did it. It's awesome! Girl you are good and you are going to do amazing things in this life!
